Catching up with Curtis Stone

I received a phone call from Russell Blaikie saying that a mate of mine was in his kitchen, so I wander up to the Must Wine Bar and sure enough there’s Curtis Stone in the back corner of the kitchen peeling carrots. It was great to see him again, Craig and his wife Emma photographed Curtis’s first cookbook in London in 2004. Wesfarmers had flown Curtis from LA to Perth to cook for a night.

I was commissioned by UWA publishing to do photography for a book of 300 pages. The food photography needed to represent the Must Wine Bar bistro experience. It was great to be around the very passionate Russell Blaikie. Most of all it was fun, especially our south west road trip where we photographed his respected suppliers.

When you mention the Loose Box Restaurant to people their eyes roll back in their head as they remember their best ever dining experience, so it was an honor to meet and work Alain Fabrgéues. This is the most immaculate food I have ever photographed. I visited his farm at Toodyay and photographed him hiding under one of his 100 yr old olive trees. One of my favourite photos of a chef.
Papua New Guinea

A dream commission came to me from Clough Engineering here in Perth to go to Papua New Guinea to photograph the local people. A large part of the brief was to photograph their local people in a national geographic style. A life changing shoot as I experienced beautiful happy people with what seemed like a bark hut and a dug out canoe as all their only possessions.
